https://mikesinventions.etsy.com We love the zipline I installed in 2012. The old bungee-cord and weight brake just broke though, so I show you how I created something entirely new using some scrap chain-link fence pipe, some old dumbbell weights, 550 paracord, a few 3D printed parts, and one oxford comma. The block and tackle setup is used to give a 4 to 1 ratio on the brake line. The pole is only so tall, and in order to stop someone as smoothly as possible, the length of the braking action needs to be lengthened. I decided on about 20' of braking action, and this necessitated a 4 line block and tackle setup. Obviously the weights on the carriage need to be minimized as well, but as the line count on the blocks go up, so do the weights, and this is why I settled on a 4-pass block and tackle system. We typically run it with 40 lbs of weight and that's enough to stop me right at the end and it'll stop Alex a few feet shorter, but it keeps us from having to constantly change the weights.
