With this version of "Be Over", Alice Sara Ott presents a nuanced upright piano interpretation of Jóhann Jóhannsson's score for the movie "The Shadow Play". Defined by subtlety and longing, the arrangement brings Jóhannsson's musical architecture into focus. The session was recorded on analogue film in the Reykjavík studio of Bergur Þórisson, a Grammy-nominated producer and engineer. “It’s one of the most beautiful instruments I’ve ever encountered,” she recalls. “Bergur placed the microphones really close to the piano which I think creates this very modern and intimate sound, and a touch of nostalgia.” With her new album “Jóhann Jóhannsson: Piano Works”, pianist Alice Sara Ott pays tribute to the legacy of one of Hollywood’s most visionary composers: Jóhann Jóhannsson. His music is defined by emotional depth, gentle force, and a distinctive musical voice. These premiere recordings are Alice Sara Ott’s solo piano reimaginations, bringing 30 of the late Icelandic composer’s hauntingly beautiful works to life with her personal touch - marked by great musicality and a profound understanding of his musical language.
