Welcome to the first ever episode of The College, a St. John’s College podcast that revolves around a quintessential Johnnie trait: dialogue. In this episode, rising junior and The College host Jordan West (A22) sits down (virtually) with recent graduate Grace Villmow (A20) to talk about music at St. John’s College. While St. John’s is best known for Great Books and seminar-style learning, music is an essential part of the Johnnie experience. We seek to know the elements of music—and in doing so, recognize ourselves as musical beings and engage with the musical world in which we live. As freshmen and sophomores, students take two years of music; after that, the opportunities for performance, music theory, and further learning are endless.
