TUG MANUEVERS BARGES UP TO PARK AT LOCK GATE

As I was sitting beneath the Barkley Dam, and alongside the shores of the Cumberland River, an Ingram Barge Co. tugboat showed up. That tug was pushing 9 barges, and heading towards the dam, in order to go through the lock to enter into Lake Barkley. This region near Grand Rivers, Kentucky sees a lot of boating traffic on a daily basis. I was not sitting here for very long when this barge showed up. Unfortunately for the tugboat another much smaller motorboat had already arrived at the lock, and it was planning on the same thing. Since the tug group was so long with the 9 barges plus the tug itself... the two boats could not go through the lock gates at the same time. Therefore, the tug pulled up to the closing gates, and waited for the river to lake process to be completed for the small boaters. once they were done, the tug would receive their turn to enter through the future open gate for the dam entrance. The Barkley Dam allows many types of boaters through the lock ranging from seasonal fishing boats, to summertime fun seeker recreational boaters, and also commercial/industrial boaters too. The engineering of this facility was very impressive! Enjoy!
