Major surgery is a very subjective term. Some patients feel that removing wisdom teeth is major surgery, and other patients feel that intraabdominal surgery such as a hysterectomy is minor surgery. From a surgeon’s perspective, I do not feel that rhinoplasty is major surgery. The vast majority of rhinoplasty surgeries are performed in under 2.5 hours, patients go home the same day, and 99% of patients are able to return to normal daily life activities within 24 hours of surgery. Therefore, I feel that rhinoplasty surgery is an “easier” surgery on the patient than the vast majority of other surgical procedures. However, it is a surgical procedure and proper preparation prior and attention to postoperative instructions following surgery is important.
