Hi all! Welcome to our latest adventure. This time, we packed up K2 (our trusty Leyland DAF T244 ex-British military truck), jumped on the ferry, and set off for a 9-day overland journey through the beautiful Pyrenees. It was an incredible trip with plenty of highs, a couple of mishaps, and lots of laughs as we explored France, Spain, and Andorra with Dylan and our two crazy cocker spaniels, Rusty and Oswald. 🐾 Starting in France at the incredible Dune du Pilat, the tallest sand dune in Europe, before winding our way through the stunning Pyrenean mountain range. Some of our favorite spots included the peaceful Lac d’Estaing, the dramatic cliffs of the Cirque de Gavarnie, and the breathtaking heights of Pic du Midi. We ventured into Loudenvielle, marvelled at the cascading waters of Cascade d’Enfer, and crossed the border to Spain to explore the tiny village of Tor. From there we drove the famous Ruta de los Contrabandistas (also known as the Smugglers’ Route or Contraband Trail), which was once used for smuggling goods between Spain and Andorra. The route hand seen some weather in the couple of weeks before we arrived so the ground was soft in places and washout had left deep ruts as we climbed to Andorra. Crossing into Andorra, we descended the stunning Port de Cabús mountain pass and visited the bustling capital, Andorra la Vella. The trip didn’t go entirely to plan though... on the way home, disaster struck! K2 found itself stuck in a muddy soft verge in a quiet French village. It’s safe to say it was an interesting way to end the holiday, but we genuinely wouldn’t have had it any other way. The people we met were beyond generous with offers of places to stay, lunch and beer supplied throughout the day as well as coffee, cake and tools to help us get out of our predicament. In the end, the might of the DAF alone was not enough and after a failed attempt to extract K2 with a tractor, larger reinforcements had to be called in. With our French being fairly poor, we could not have coordinated any of this without the help of the dozen or so people that turned out and spent their day trying to help us get home. 🎵 Music Credit: Dawn Chorus Ignites - Black Tree Dawn Chorus Ignites - Altitude Dawn Chorus Ignites - Fast Stillness Dawn Chorus Ignites - Dawn Chorus Ignites Dawn Chorus Ignites - Black Tree Dawn Chorus Ignites - Signs Dawn Chorus Ignites - Polar Lights All music used with permission of the band (of which I am a member!)
