We began our journey in Kuwari village, a forward-caste settlement that looked vibrant and happy, a grand temple, festive mela preparations, and even ₹4 lakh spent on bringing a popular Bhojpuri singer, Kallu. Yet, when we asked about development, the villagers laughed it off, for them, “vikas” could wait, celebration couldn’t. Moving ahead, we spoke to the youth of the same village who dream of a Bihar beyond caste lines. They believe votes should be cast for development, not division. Our next stop was a complete contrast, an Adivasi (backward) village in Seemanchal. Here, roads and schools were all there, but what was going inside the classrooms can be questioned and the Anganwadi center lay in ruins. Families lived with minimal resources, hospitals denied basic medicines to tribals, and government schemes like Awas Yojana and Annapurna never reached them. We met two men drunk mid-day, a tragic reflection of how alcohol dependency and neglect coexist in rural Bihar. Yet amidst all this, there was peace, greenery, and the quiet strength of people who still hoped for change.
