I bet you don't know how to pronounce gnossienne bc I don't know either :) Apparently, there's a couple of songs called Gnossiennes by this French guy, Erik Satie, who used the word to describe his "untraditional" types of composition, which were for the most part in free time (no time signatures, bar lines, nothing like that). But this isn't the first time this word was used - it was used before then in Greek, "referring to the ritual labyrinth dance created by Theseus to celebrate his victory over the Minotaur," according to Wikipedia. The definition I'm using here is just the feeling, not the technical term it's used in music (bc I created something completely different than what Erik Satie created). Gnossienne (pronounced nos-yen) is the feeling you get when you become aware that you've known a person for years but they still have a private life you don't even know about, and probably will never know about. I wrote this for a friend who was one of my closest friends for a couple years straight, but life happens as it does, and now our lives are different. We're not friends like we were. Idk, maybe this feeling is too depressing for how major and happy this song is, but I'd love to know her more. I'd love to find out what made our friendship different, I'd love to satisfy my curiosity. Yk?
