At about 1:50 AM, on Monday, June 24, 2024, officers assigned to the Anti-Crime Unit of District B-3 (Mattapan) arrested Nyjulius Johnson, 29, of Boston, on firearm charges. Officers were on patrol in the area of Norfolk Street and Morton Street when they observed a motor vehicle with a failed inspection sticker. Officers immediately activated their cruiser’s lights and sirens to initiate a traffic stop. Officers approached the occupants and requested the operator to produce his license and registration, which he complied. Officers observed the front seat passenger to not be wearing his seatbelt and requested his identification. When the passenger retrieved his identification, he moved his right arm across his body to retrieve it from his left pocket. Officers believed that the suspect was attempting to conceal an unknown item in his left pocket. While the passenger handed officers his identification, he dropped his cell phone inside the car. Officers advised the passenger that he could retrieve his phone, which he continued to use his right hand and kept his left arm pinned to his body. Officers determined that the motor vehicle’s failed inspection sticker was beyond sixty days, and deemed unsafe to operate. Officers requested the occupants to exit the vehicle as a tow had been requested. Officers conducted a pat frisk of both the occupants, and recovered a firearm from the passenger’s left jacket pocket. The firearm was later determined to be a Glock 43 with five rounds in the magazine. Officers conducted an inquiry of the firearm serial number and determined it to be stolen out of Georgia. Johnson was placed under arrest and charged with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm 2nd Offense, Firearm Violation with One Prior Violent/Drug Crime, and Receiving Stolen Property over $1,200. He was arraigned in Dorchester District Court.
