Racing Down a Volcano in Nicaragua | Cerro Negro

Cerro Negro is one of the most insane adventures we’ve done on this entire Pan-American Highway trip — and easily one of the wildest things you can do in Nicaragua. It’s one of the youngest (and still active) volcanoes in Central America, and for some reason, people hike to the top just to slide down it on a wooden board. So of course… we had to try it. There’s no chairlift, no snow, just sharp volcanic rock, heavy wind, and a steep slope that only looks steeper the closer you get to the edge. After a hot 45-minute hike through the Nicaraguan sun, we sat down, leaned back, and flew down the side of this volcano, hitting speeds up to 60 mph. It was chaotic, ridiculous, and absolutely worth it.
