How to get a (discarded) Switch Mode Power supply working for other purposes.. My HD Canon camera stops automaticall when 4 MB is reached, but enough was showed/explained.. first video • Can a laptop or printer power supply be us... Don’t shoot me down on this video: it gives problems, basics, principles, idea’s for solutions, but no solutions, because Switch Mode Power Supplies are made in (too) many ways and I considered them in this video as a “black box”: an oscillator that (after all) generates DC. To know how they (a model of them) really work(s) you have to open them physically (it) and study them (it) with the oscilloscope in a test situation with a dummy load. The video only shows the things/problems that you can expect and how to cure some problems for certain applications, no specific component values are given. Key issue: the Pi filter with a ferrite core/coil + all kinds of other (perhaps….) solutions or idea’s to get them working for your purpose. Pi filter works quite good, by the way, to get 70 % of the HF noise down. Say: 30-60 windings on a ferrite rod or ring. Sometimes these SMPS blocks are usable as “christmas light” power supply or power supply for LED-lighting, but don’t use them in the rain or moist situations. Read and confirm yourself to the specifications on the box of the switch mode power supply when you want to use it for LED lighting or christmas tree lamps. They are in fact dangerous, because there is (in a certain way) a (more or less) "direct" connection to the mains of 230 V or 110 V AC with 10 or 16 Ampère. No galvanic separation & isolation. So in fact the SMPS is (somewhat) dangerous device. Never use them when you bath yourself in a bath-tub or in the bathroom, supplying your smartphone or whatever by a wall-mount "device" of whatever kind in such a moist/wet situation. As far as I know there are 3 types of these “AC-DC” Switch Mode Power supply converters. Good article about the ways that switch mode power supplies operate was published in the magazine “Electron” in 2018 or 2017, it is the Magazine of the Radio Society “VERON” in the Netherlands (Dutch tekst). Much more info is on the internet and on You Tube. All the videos hat I have published on You Tube can be found via my Channel Trailer: Link is • Radiofun232 on YouTube, find working & tes... In thematic order you can find these video’s under the “comments” section. Important: to find all the links to the (+/-700) video’s on my YT Channel, select, in the comments section, “NEWEST FIRST” My books about electronics are available via the website from “Lulu”, search for author “Ko Tilman” there. https://www.lulu.com/shop/search.ep?k... There is an important video via which you can buy a document where I give links to many of my video’s, published between 2010 and 2018. Link is: • Radiofun232: Links to my You Tube videos 2... My books are also available via Barnes and Noble and via Amazon. Regarding all my video’s: I constantly keep them actual, so the original video’s with the most recent information are always on YouTube. That is the source, and search there. When my video’s are reproduced or re-edited on other websites/channels you can not (!) be sure about the original content (=really working electronics) and important adaptations to the circuits. Be aware of that, I saw on the internet my circuits reproduced in a poor or even not proper way. I can not help that, sorry. Upload 10 january 2019.
