Pastor Aloysius Bugingo is a prominent Ugandan pastor, media entrepreneur, and founder of House of Prayer Ministries International (HPMI), also known as Canaan Land, located in Makerere Kikoni, Kampala. He is also the owner of Salt Media Group, which runs Salt FM and Salt TV. Born in Masaka in 1972, Bugingo overcame a difficult childhood, including abuse and homelessness, before building a successful business career and entering ministry. He is known for his passionate preaching, controversial views, and high-profile public life. In 2017, he attracted nationwide controversy after allegedly burning Bibles that referred to the "Holy Ghost" instead of the "Holy Spirit." In January 2024, he survived an assassination attempt in Kampala, during which his bodyguard was killed. Teddy Naluswa Bugingo, commonly known as Teddy Bugingo, is a Ugandan pastor and the estranged wife of Pastor Aloysius Bugingo. The two were married in the early 1990s and have four children together. Their marriage became a matter of national debate when Pastor Bugingo filed for divorce in 2019, claiming irreconcilable differences. Teddy, however, refused to sign the divorce papers and continues to regard herself as his lawful wife. After their separation, she founded her own church, Word of Salvation Ministries International, in January 2020. Several members from her husband’s church defected to join her ministry. Teddy has also voiced concerns about Pastor Bugingo’s relationship with their children, claiming he has been denied access to them. Susan Makula is a Ugandan media personality, entrepreneur, and the current fiancée of Pastor Aloysius Bugingo. Her relationship with Bugingo began around 2016, while he was still legally married to Teddy Naluswa. This led to widespread public scrutiny and legal challenges, including a case filed against the couple for allegedly entering a customary marriage while Bugingo was still married. Despite the controversy, Susan and Bugingo held a traditional introduction ceremony in 2021. She has a background in media, having worked at Alpha FM and Salt Media. Susan overcame personal hardships, including single motherhood and dropping out of university, before graduating with a degree in Mass Communication in 2023. As of late 2023, the couple celebrated an anniversary and were reportedly expecting a child together. Sheikh Burhan Muhsin Kiti, commonly known as Sheikh Kiti, is a highly respected Ugandan Islamic scholar, preacher, and public speaker with over two decades of experience. He is known for his dynamic and relatable preaching style, often emphasizing the oneness of God (Tawheed). Sheikh Kiti is also active in social advocacy and youth empowerment, urging the younger generation to lead positive lives. His influence extends beyond Uganda through participation in international Islamic conferences. In March 2025, he was gifted a Toyota Vanguard by his followers, a gesture that highlighted his popularity. His teachings—especially the now-viral phrase “Mutonzi Ya’salawo” (God decides)—have endeared him to many for promoting faith and resilience in trying times.
