This temple is situated just 1.5 km northwest of Angkor Wat Temple. Phnom Bakheng Temple was built to symbolise Mount Meru, believed to be the mythical home of the Hindu gods. It was built over two centuries before Angkor Wat Temple. This temple holds a significant place in Cambodian history and culture. To reach Phnom Bakheng, you need to go through dense forest and hike for about 15-20 minutes to reach the hilltop. Arriving at Phnom Bakheng, you will be greeted by its remarkable architecture, characterized by five tiers symbolizing Mount Meru's five peaks.
