The oldest out of the two had been constructed by a student of Ven. Pallattara Punnasara Thero in 1799 A.D. The other is a construction of Amaraweera Abeysiri Goonawardene Wellaboda Pattu Muhandiram, a local governor under the guidance of Sumana Thero of Galle and Kahawe Indasara Thero being the students of Ven. Nugawela Indrajothi Thero. It is mentioned that the paintings in the old shrine had been painted by Kadolgalle Maha Sittara and Podde Sittara. In the outer shrine of the old vihara, there are paintings belonging to two stages out of which the “Mara Parajaya”, “Vessantara” and “Saxn” Jataka stories, and the wall painting of God Vishnu belong to 1799 A.D. In the inner chamber, individual Buddha statues representing sitting, standing, and reclining gestures as well as paintings of Arahanths, Suwisi Viwarana, and distinguished devotees carrying offerings to Buddha are depicted. The paintings of the new Vihara had been etched by Atakorale Sittara Muhandiram. On the right wall of the outer chamber, there are many paintings of Gods and the statue of God Natha. The statue of God Ananga in the two entrances to the Inner chamber is the only statue seen in the viharas of the southern region. Paintings of 16 Sacred Places of worship, six heavens, Vessantara, Chulla Dharmapala, Kadirangara, and Dahamsonda Jataka stories are seen in the outer chamber of the Vihara. Two statues of guardians and two Makara Thoranas are also seen at the inner chamber entrance. On top of the Makara Torana, the Gods Shiva, Viskas, Sakka, and Brahma along with their vehicles have been painted. There are three Buddha statues in the sitting standing and reclining gestures and a standing statue of God Vishon. In the vihara apart from these, there are many other paintings including the logo of the sacred footprint in the shrine. These paintings of new vihara are reddish brown and completed in intricate outer linings and various decorations. Red, yellow, black, white, blue, and green were used for the paintings. Telwatte paintings may be considered as a place where wall paintings of the southern style which bear a special place in the history of Sri Lankan Buddhist wall paintings originated. Venerable Thotagamuwe Sri Rahula Thero was a pundit who rendered great service to language and literature with his multiple skills in the languages by being the author of Tripitakaya, languages, and poems. The first book he composed was the "Kalerewu Asna" alias "Parevi Sandesa". This had been written in order to request God Upulwan to give a good husband and son for the eldest daughter Chandrawathie, of King Parakramabahu (VI)(1412-1467A.D.). It had been mentioned in this sandesaya that Rahula Thero was conversant in Pali and Sanskrit. The Sandesaya that boasts Rahula Thero's skills the most is the Selalihini Sandesaya. The reason for sending this Sandesaya from Kotte to Kelaniya Vishnu shrine in the name of Nannurtunaya was to plead to the Gods to give Lokanatha a good son. Considering the background of the Sattubatta Jatakaya and following the features of the verse Kavyasekara inclusive of 15 chapters and 887 four-sentence poems was the largest one among his creations. Kavyasekaraya was written in respect of the request by Queen Ulakudaya to listen to a Dhamma preaching in poetic verse. This had been written taking into consideration many famous Sinhala and Sanskrit books such as Kadambari, Padya chudamani, Janakiharana, Kawsilumina, Siyabaslakara etc. Panchika Pradipa is also a translation of the book Moggallayana Vyakarana(a Pali Grammar Book), written by Moggallayana Thero. The number of books written by Rahula Thero is immeasurable in value since he must have been instrumental in writing so many books. #ThatagamuRanpathRajamahaWiharaya #ThotagamuweRahulaHamuduruwo #SriRahulaHimi #SriRahulaThero #SriRahulaHamuduruwo #HikkaduweSriSumangalaHimi #WeththeweHimi #SelalihiniSandeshaya #GuththilaKawya #ThelwattaPansala #ThelwattaRajamahaWiharaya #DakunePansal #DakuneIthihasaya #DakuneUrumaya #DakunulakeAsiriya #LankeeyaWanshakathawa #PuranasinhalaWanshakathawa #WaskaduwaSriWimalaHimi #HelaIthihasaya #Hikkaduwa #Ambalangoda #sinigama #Akurala #thelwatta SUBSCRIBE MY Cool With Dhana CHANNEL Like Comment Share My Videos My Social Media Facebook / coolwithdhana1 Twitter https://twitter.com/WithDhana?s=09 Instagram / cool_with_dhana Telegram https://t.me/CoolWithDhana Thank you. #CoolWithDhana
