Exploring the Former Sonoma Developmental Center and Discovering the Restored Eldridge Cemetery

In this video, I discover an old cemetery while geocaching in Sonoma. I was walking on the grounds of the former Sonoma Developmental Center, which has been closed and shuttered since 2018. This cemetery was restored a few years ago, and has the appearance of a lovely park. There are plaques of all the names of the residents buried there, and a new tribute wall has been built at the gates. After checking out the cemetery, I do a short walk through some of the streets (no cars allowed) to view a few of the old buildings, including the old brick Administration Building. Such an interesting place with 127 years of history of caring for the developmentally disabled! I will definitely return soon to explore the miles of hills there....they are now part of the local CA State Park system.
