Diving the Graf Zeppelin | Webinar

Stephen Burke has had a life long passion for maritime history. An obsessive explorer of deep-wrecks with more than thirty years diving experience on the wrecks of Northern Europe, a description he read in a naval encyclopaedia given as a Christmas present by his parents in the year 2000 mentioning the aircraft carrier Graf Zeppelin was one that was bound to grasp his imagination. Back then, little was known about the Graff Zeppelin and her ultimate fate. The encyclopaedia recounted, incorrectly it turned out, how she had sunk after hitting a mine in the Gulf of Finland, and those few lines of text, on one single page of a pocket encyclopaedia, were enough to ensure many years of research would ensue. The quest to find more information about this forgotten giant would take Steve on an odyssey across Europe in an attempt to track down information about the carrier, with a distant dream of maybe, just maybe one day diving her. The research Steve carried out, including an interview with a Kriegsmarine veteran who served on board the ship, would result in two books, three TV documentaries but most importantly lasting friendships. Steve is an ordinary diver, who followed a dream.
