Home Made Large Wooden Garden Planters

We usually plant our Red #Banana #Plants (Musa Ensete Maurelii) directly into the ground and lift them each winter because they are not hardy. But last year was a bit of a struggle getting them out of the ground because they were so big. This year we are taking a different approach by constructing two very large wooden planters. I've used treated timber which was recovered and upcycled from another project. The process was pretty straight forward but as you will see in the video there are some tricks, hacks and shortcuts. Both planters were given two coats of wood stain and preserver. Then lined with a #compost bag. I put #crocks in for #drainage and some polystyrene for volume to save on compost. They need to be kept in a protected position until the average temperature rises a bit. We've had a whole month of frosts so I'm being cautious. Because they are in planters the will be watered and fed often. Most banana plants are very hungry and thirsty. We are hoping they will be bigger than ever this year.
