Today we’re going to talk about the seven benefits of a fever. You might think a fever is a bad thing. But, it’s actually something normal that your immune system creates as a defense mechanism against certain infections. A fever can be a good thing that you don’t necessarily want to get rid of right away.  The 7 benefits of a fever: 1. Restricts the reproduction of pathogens  2. Decreases the time of infection  3. Mobilizes white blood cells 4. Enhanced phagocytosis 5. Decreased endotoxin effect 6. Increased growth of T cells  7. A decrease in mortality rate  In some cases, what you might want to do is actually enhance the fever. This could potentially help in stimulating some of these immune reactions.  There is no agreed-upon normal upper limit for someone’s temperature. So, what temperature should you let your body go to? Typically you may want to let the temperature rise to between 100-104 degrees Fahrenheit or 37.8-40 Celsius. Certain immune cells that specialize in killing viruses do it by releasing things like interferon. When interferon is released, you could experience symptoms, including a fever.
