Speaking on the postponed calling attention - Fear and anxiety in the minds of the people due to the deaths of linemen from electric shocks while on duty. Safety at the workplace is paramount and therefore, safety equipment needs to be made available to all the workers and safety measures are strictly implemented in the department. Regrettably, there were ~59 accidents involving linemen reported in the last three years, and 9 linemen lost their lives while discharging their duty. Compensation to affected families cannot bring back lost lives. There is a need for the Government to address the root causes of these recurring fatalities and; 1. Conduct a thorough investigation into the causes of these accidents. 2. Implement permanent safety protocols. 3. Collaborate with technical experts for sustainable solutions. I request the Hon. Minister for Power to kindly consider the suggestions, in the interest and safety of the linesmen, with priority.
