Howdy ya’ll. This collection of images may very well be the most interesting I’ve found for you to date. Every photograph today (besides one) is dated to 1840 through 1844, meaning each photograph we will examine is over 180 years old! As you will come to see, all of these images showcase The Old World, and they all come to us from one photographer; Joseph Philibert Girault de Prangey. We’re told Joseph had an obsession with understanding the architecture of our past, and he went on a “Grand Tour” across our realm, photographing as many historically significant locations as possible. In doing so, he produced over 900 daguerreotype photographs, including the first photographs ever taken of the structures and landscapes we are looking at today. However, more interesting, we’re told Joseph did all of this in private, never telling his friends or family that he produced these images, and they remained locked in his private collection for nearly 150 years before becoming public knowledge. Let’s dive deep into the finest, and earliest collection of photographs we have ever seen before. Enjoy!
