ACAN! Carbon Clinics is a knowledge-sharing campaign run by ACAN!’s Embodied Carbon Group. This series of events aims to provide practical insights from industry experts and to facilitate discussions on the challenges and opportunities of adopting Whole Life Cycle Assessments (WLCAs) in the built environment. This session: Whole Life Cycle Assessment Tools in Practice Following on from our previous clinic which featured a whistlestop tour of the Life Cycle Assessment calculators most utilised in the UK's built environment, this session will explore how these tools are being used in practice. Join us for a relaxed discussion with colleagues who are actively using these tools in their projects. You'll gain insight into: How they’ve integrated LCA tools into their workflows; How easy, or challenging these tools are to use; What’s working well and where there's room for improvement; How LCA tools can help inform design decisions; In this session focused on practical experience you'll hear directly from practitioners using: Preoptima - presented by Marc Seligmann, Head of Sustainability at Maccreanor Lavington OneClick LCA - presented by Jack Penford Baker, Associate at Haptic Architects eTool / Cerclos - presented by Pat Hermon, Director at L.C.D Consulting H\:BERT - presented by Kristofers Scipanovs, Architect at Hawkins\Brown FCBS Carbon - presented by Alastair Ogle, Senior Associate at Waugh Thistleton MESH EC Calculator - presented by Bart Smith, Associate at Kaner Palette Architects If you missed the previous session which introduced these LCA tools, you can catch up by watching the recording: • Embodied Carbon | ACAN! | Carbon Clinic 03... Recommended training ahead of the session To get the most out of these embodied carbon sessions, it's helpful to have some background on Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) theory, including an understanding of life cycle modules, functional units, system boundaries, environmental impact categories, and data sources (e.g., Environmental Product Declarations). We recommend watching Construction Carbon’s Lifecycle Carbon Assessment (LCA) Foundation Training course before attending the webinars to maximise your learning. This free learning resource, now managed by CIBSE, offers six modules and additional certification opportunities. You can watch the modules independently or register through CIBSE for the full training, which includes a virtual webinar, an assessment quiz (minimum pass rate required), and a certificate. To register: https://www.cibse.org/training/search... Should you wish to only watch the webinars, you can do so here: Module 1: What is embodied carbon and why is it important in sustainable construction? Module 2: Deep dive into understanding into Whole Building LCAs Module 3: This module will provide an Introduction to EPDs Module 4: An introduction to materials and whole building LCAs Module 5: An overview of International Standards and whole building LCAs Module 6: Wider case for Sustainable Construction About the Architects Climate Action Network (ACAN) ACAN is a network of individuals within architecture and related built environment professions taking action to address the twin crises of climate and ecological breakdown. ACAN directs personal expertise and singular efforts towards a common goal - systemic change in the profession and the construction industry at large. ACAN operates without commercial affiliations or support, allowing the network to act at pace and with autonomy. Through collective action, ACAN is working to demand, instigate and propagate the transformation of the construction industry. To enable ACAN to continue to offer a range of events, and to support our ongoing work, please do consider purchasing a paid ticket (£3) and/or become a Member. Free tickets are also available! Any other contribution, however small, will go directly towards our vital work and would be most gratefully received. In solidarity. #ACAN #ClimateChange #Architecture
