In today's video I explore a question submitted via a YouTube subscriber about whether self-harm injuries and scars should be covered / hidden. I talk through many different things to consider and draw on the opinions and ideas of a range of professionals and people who have experienced self-harm first hand. In short, I suggest that when injuries are still healing, that they should be covered to avoid the risk of infection but that once they become scars we should treat them like other scars and dress for the weather, having our scars showing if we feel comfortable. I consider some things to bear in mind when we first stop hiding our scars and also consider the slightly different decisions that might be made about whether or not to cover scars by professionals working with young people. It's a complex, thorny debate that is ever-evolving so please do let me know your thoughts and experiences on this one. -- I hope you find this video helpful.
