Ashover Rock- or The Fabrick as it is known to locals- sits on an area of heathland at 299m above sea level. As a result there are excellent panoramic views of the surrounding countryside. The relatively flat land to the east if the viewpoint means that on a really clear day, it is possible to see Lincoln Cathedral (with a telescope). This gritstone boulder has watched over the dales and villages of Littlemoor and Ashover since the time of the last glacial period around 4,000 to 6,000 years ago. During this time, it has been a symbolic idol to local residents since neolithic man first carved runes into it’s ancient stone. Though graffitied and oft-times misused in it’s more recent history. Evidence of a stone folly on the top of the rocks during the Victorian period has long since disappeared, the land has also passed through private ownership of the Bassett sisters in the 20th century. Since 2006, it’s donation to Derbyshire County Council and the designation of the surrounding area as a managed heathland- and an area of natural beauty- has helped to maintain it’s handsome silhouette. This footage was taken on the 11th August 2020, taking in the views from the Fabrick as far as the eye can see. Music: Interstellar Main Theme - Hans Zimmer
