Final Fantasy 7 - Japanese Beta Demo

As an incentive to buy the (now mostly forgotten) 3D fighter Tobal No. 1, Squaresoft included a taster disc called "Square's Preview" that included a Final Fantasy Tactics video, a Bushido Blade trailer and - most importantly - a playable beta demo of Final Fantasy VII. The English version of the demo is available elsewhere on youtube, but as far as I can tell, the Japanese version - technically the earliest - has never been uploaded in its entirety. Until now. The demo features three-person party, a lot of materia and significantly harder enemies than the final release, presumably to give non-novice players a real taste of what FF7 battles are like. It's a shame they softened the final release, really, as notwithstanding the high encounter rate, the demo feels pretty balanced. The Leviathan summon is obviously a bit overpowered for this mission, but must have done a good job of showing the new PSOne's "cinematic" 3D graphics. I've used Youtube annotations to mark changes that I've spotted, but for the impatient, the big ones are: Explanatory text in the opening movie The Guard Scorpion is replaced by a Sweeper and two Grunts The animations, models and backgrounds are still unfinished The 'scaffold' area where Jesse gets stuck is swapped out for the one in Reactor 5 You have to rescue Biggs and Jesse to get out Anyway, enough babbling.
