DNF chased a subadult away from the North Nest (   • DN. Mr. North with fish, followed by a sub...  ) before flying in. Mr. North mantled and complained a little before giving the fish to his mate and flying out to stand guard over the nest. Mr. North gave DNF her first food gift of the season on December 9, 2025. Egg-laying requires substantial stores of calcium, water, and protein, and triggers major shifts in hormones, fat distribution, and feather development. To support this process, male raptors need to bring their mates into condition before laying, which means plenty of food gifts. As laying draws nearer, food gifts and copulation will become more frequent, DNF will put on water weight and redistribute fat to her brood patch, and we'll see more of her in and around the nest.
