InterCity usually runs through the Gotthard Base Tunnel, but that remains partially closed and so we are lucky to be rerouted on these lovely trains along the old Gotthard Railway route and through the original 15km tunnel, from 1882. Lugano looks lovely by the lake as we jump on the IC to return to Luzern on the other side of the Alps.
