Aurora Clinics Plastic surgeon, Adrian Richards talks about implant removal combined with an uplift. For a free consultation or quote go to www.aurora-clinics.co.uk or call 01844 318328 Hello. In this video I am going to be talking about implant removal and breast uplift. In other episodes in this little series I have talked about removal of implants and exchange of implants but in this video I am going to be talking about removal of implants and breast uplift surgery and this is a procedure we do specialise in at Aurora Clinics. So, many of our patients who have had breast implants feel that the bust is slightly larger with time so as time goes by they naturally develop more breast tissue so the overlying breast tissue over the implant gets a little thicker and also, unfortunately, because of gravity everything unfortunately goes down with time so the breasts do go with time no matter how well you support them and often the nipples become slightly low. So the way we judge whether the nipples are low is we look at the position of the nipples from the side and make an assessment of whether they lie above the natural fold of the breast at the level of the fold or below the level of the fold. The normal would be for the nipples to lie above the fold half way between your shoulder and your elbow and approximately 21cm from your sternal notch. So the sternal notch, if you put your finger here between your collar bones that is your sternal notch and the nipples should lie, in an average height of 5 feet 5 inches female, 21cm in a triangle from there. So the distance between the notch and the nipples and between the nipples should be 21cm, so a triangle of equal sizes. Now, if you feel your bust is too large, if your nipples have gone down, a really good option is to have your implants removed and your breasts refashioned so that your natural breast tissue is slightly higher and firmer and you have a better breast shape without an implant. The downside of this is scarring, so you have a much better shape, more natural shape, no implants to worry about in the long term but you will have some scarring and I think it is probably worthwhile you having a look at some of our other videos to show you the type of scarring you can have and also looking at our before and after photographs. But, in essence, scarring from an uplift you will always have a scar around the areola, the areola is the brown area around the nipple, the areola can be reduced in diameter but there will be a scar around it. In some cases there will be a scar coming down from the areola to the fold underneath the breast which is known as a lollipop incision and in other we would advise you that an anchor or partial anchor scar may be appropriate for you. The anchor is the round area around the nipple, the scar downwards and the scar sideways on the fold. Which type of uplift for you will be discussed with you with your surgeon. Essentially it depends on how low your nipples are, how much we need to elevate your nipples and how much excess skin we need to remove, so for a moderate nipple elevation with a moderate amount of skin we may just be able to do a very small incision around the nipple, but if there is more skin excess we may extend the scar. So, in summary, at Aurora Clinics we do specialise in removal of breast implants and uplift surgery at the same time, it is a really good option if you feel that perhaps breast implants aren’t for you and you would like your own, natural breast tissue remodelled to have a very soft, natural appearing bust without a breast implant. If you feel this procedure may be appropriate for you or you would like to discuss it further, please feel free to contact us, we would love to meet you and discuss the options. zuffbloss
