EPCOT has the life of the seas, and Animal Kingdom has the life of the land. Check out all the cool animals this place has to offer! Asian Brown Tortoise: Turtles have been around for over 200 million years. Today, many species face possible extinction because they are hunted as food and medicine. The brown tortoise is the largest tortoise in Asia often growing to more than 18 inches long. The tortoise spends its days burrowed into damp soil in tropical forests. American Crocodile: All modern alligators and crocodiles are descendants of the crocodilians - an ancient family of reptiles that flourished in the Late Cretaceous. Found throughout Central America and the northern coastal areas if South America, the American Crocodile preserves many primitive characteristics from that era. The males are capable of growing up to 20 feet. Living in both freshwater and brackish coastal areas, they feed mostly on fish and other aquatic animals. Threats from hunters and habitat destruction pose a continuing challenge for this species. Lesser Flamingo: Lesser flamingos commonly form huge flocks numbering in the tens of thousands. They eat a varied diet of microscopic blue-green algae and aquatic invertebrates in highly alkaline lakes and flooded salt plains. With beaks built like food strainers, they trap food by using their tongues to draw in water and push it across the ridges inside their mouths. Aside from their pink plumage, lesser flamingos are known for standing on one leg, which they do in part to regulate body temperatures.
