This video is about the history of Hawaii in the early 19th century, when the Russian Empire was close to establish a colony in the Hawaiian Archipelago. They established contact with Hawaiian king Kamehameha I in 1804. Russian vessels continued to visit the Kingdom irregularly, with the primary transactions were focused on foodstuffs. In 1815 the Russian-American Company send German physician Georg Anton Schäffer to Hawaiʻi to retrieve goods seized by Kaumualiʻi, chief of Kauaʻi island. Kaumualiʻi eagerly signed a "treaty" granting Russian Tsar Alexander I of Russia a protectorate over Kauaʻi. Kaumualiʻi allowed Schäffer to build a fort near Waimea, named Fort Elizabeth. When it was discovered that Schäffer did not have the backing of the Tsar, he was forced to leave Kauaʻi. Captain Alexander Adams replaced the Russian flag with the new Kingdom of Hawaii flag some time before October 1817. ------------------------------------------ Voice & editing: Nicolae Bondar (myself) Music: Sleepless Aloha, by Reed Mathis, downloaded from YouTube Audio Library Information Sources: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Russian... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sch%C3%... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Russian... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Georg_A... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hawaiia... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/House_o...
