Chhath Puja is one of India’s oldest festivals, rooted in the legacy of Goddess Sita, who first performed this sacred ritual on the ghats of River Ganga after returning to Ayodhya. Her worship of Surya Dev for the welfare of her kingdom became a tradition of faith and gratitude that continues even today. The four-day festival begins with Nahay Khaye, a day of purification with a holy bath and a satvik meal of lauki, chana dal, and rice. The second day, Kharna, marks a nirjala fast that ends at sunset with Mahaprasad of gur ki kheer and roti. On the third day, Sandhya Arghya, devotees offer water to the setting sun amidst hymns and glowing diyas. The final day, Usha Arghya, honors the rising sun as devotees pray for health, harmony, and prosperity. Chhath Puja remains a timeless symbol of purity, discipline, and nature’s eternal grace.
