Original listing and sheet music here: https://musescore.com/user/36482158/s... "Oriental Ragtime Waltz". One of two ragtime waltzes written by Harry P. Guy (1870-1950), the other being the very well-known "Echoes from the Snowball Club". Harry was a talented musician, composer and band organizer who settled in Detroit and was very active in the Detroit music scene for years and a founding member of Fred S. Stone's Black Musicians Union. The Daughters of Dahomey were a renowned all-female military regiment of the Kingdom of Dahomey, present-day Benin in Africa, that existed from the 17th to the late 19th century, famed for their ferocity and military prowess. (An "oriental" piece in those days meant "exotic" or from a faraway land, without specifying where necessarily.) This excellent composition was published by Harry P. Guy in Detroit in 1902. The original score comes from the Detroit Public Library at this link: https://digitalcollections.detroitpub... If the above link isn't working, it can also be found at this link: https://www.ceder.net/piano/viewsingl... This is a reproduction of the original score. Many thanks to Mitchy for an excellent suggestion. "Echoes from the Snowball Club" by Harry P. Guy from 1898: • Echoes from the Snowball Club by Harry P. ... #ragtime #ragtimepiano #waltz
