Disclaimer: I am not a gun smith. This is not a "How To" more of a "How I did it." I recommend reading entire description for more information. Camera used - Sony Action Cam http://amzn.to/2dofIUC Steps involved so far: Disassemble gun Build plastic tube for soaking Soak metal parts in diesel fuel (the longer the better) Wire brush rust off (brass bristles) Wash with oil Soak small moving parts in oil Clean exterior metal parts with cleaner and degreaser Clean off degreaser Allow all parts to dry completely Tape off interior parts before painting Paint exterior and any other metal parts that do not move The tube is made from ABS plastic typically used for drains in homes. It did not react to the diesel what so ever, neither did the glue, even after soaking for four+ days. Do not use the first type of paint! It was super thick and globbed on instead of a thin even coat. Still worked but wasn't as pretty as I had hoped. I do not recommend this kind of paint... for anything, ever. I will put another coat of paint on after this coat has cured for a few days. The bolt and trigger group are soaking in gun oil and will stay there for a few days. The safety was sticking a bit but is now worked loose and I think it will be fine. I have not taken the trigger or bolt apart and do not plan to do so. This gun will forever be totally bathed in oil, cleaned after every use, and rebathed as needed. It will never sit dry a day in its new life. I did not blue the metal finish. I spoke with a gun smith and he recommended skipping that part as I planned on painting it any way. I realize it would help in the long run but honestly, I don't mind it this way. This gun will never be back to its original condition and accept that fact. I do think it will function just as I need it too and that is all I ask of it. This is a hunting gun, not a collector's edition, I mean c'mon I found it at the bottom of a lake after all... Questions? Ask in comments. Stick around, next will be testing! Just in time for dove season too! Also, I just saw that my dog took a dump in the background... ha
