The land of bravery, also called as 'Sethu nadu', which has been none other than our Ramanathapuram, which has been in short form, called as Ramnad. What here, we have watched the lifestyle of the kings of Ramnad in their palace, which has been called as 'Ramalinga vilasam', has been clearly depicted by Ramnad lifestyle's video presentation. This palace, what we have been watching, has been the residual portion of the Ramalinga vilasam, in which, the kings of Ramnad had been living majestically. Among the kings, or otherwise called as 'Sethupathy', kizhavan sethupathy had been a well noted person, as he was more powerful and under his reign only, Ramnad had flourished into its autonomous status. Not only, this palace Ramalinga vilasam, but also, the Thirumayam fort had been built by kizhavan sethupathy. On those days, the pilgrimage to Rameswaram had been very tough enough, that the pilgrims had been attacked by the thieves often. Those affected people had complained to the king of Madurai, on that time, the krishnappa Naicker, to help them in that issue. The king krishnappa naicker had arranged sadaiyakka sethupathy, as their guardian. He ruled Ramanathapuram, under the control of Madurai king, krishnappa naicker. This palace building consists of a royal court and an ostentatious dwelling area. It is believed that this palace had been built with the donated money given by Sheik Abdul Khadhar, who had been also called as vallal, Seethakathi, in Tamil language. The murals found in the building, representing the life pattern of sethupathy kings, scenes depicting their battle with maratha kings of Thanjavur, and their European contacts on that time.
