We have planted many Wave petunias before but we wondered how long it would take an Easy Wave "Rose Fusion" petunia, the new Wave 2021 Introduction, to grow to relatively "full size". So, we planted just one to find out. It would be our "filler and spiller” plant (in addition to some broken limbs from a Vigoro yellow portulaca plant). The Wave petunia was small because we purchased a 6-pack for $5.99 USD and used only ONE in this container. Our "thriller" plant is a Dracaena indivisa "Spikes", from Proven Winners. It came in a 4.5" Qt. (~ 1.5 Pint) container and was selling for $2.49 USD at our local big retailer. The plants receive full sun from about 5:30AM - 3:00PM CDT. We garden in Illinois Zone 5 outside of Chicago, IL (USA). This video shows their progress in 2 months from May 26 - July 26. As you can see, it is definitely possible to have a full looking container without packing so many Wave petunias into one container, if you're on a tight (garden) budget and you don't mind the wait. Breakdown of cost: 1 Spikes Dracaena --- $2.49 1 Easy Wave Petunia --- $1.00 (used one out of 6 @ $5.99) 3 Portulacas --- $0 (broken limbs which we just pushed into the dirt instead of trashing) ----------------------- Total Cost: $3.49 Note: We notice that Wave petunias DO NOT grow well in the ground. We planted three (3) into the ground at the same time we made this container and they barely grew! These seem to be better suited for containers because the two (2) remaining that we also put into containers like this one, all thrived and produced amazing results. Enjoy!
