This is my full 102km review of the Li-Ning Feidian 5 Challenger — a £78 Chinese super shoe with a full-length carbon plate. I wore this shoe for every run in a 102km training week to properly test whether a budget carbon plate running shoe can compete with premium Western super shoes like the Nike Alphafly and Puma Fast-R Nitro Elite 3. Here are the results: • Monday – 60min easy run in heavy rain (excellent grip and stability) • Tuesday – 4x 10min sub-threshold @ 4:13–4:15/km • Wednesday – 11.14km in 60 minutes with a low average HR of 118bpm • Thursday – 6x 6min sub-threshold @ 4:02–4:03/km (best session yet) • Saturday – Groe Parkrun in 19:02 (6 seconds faster than my previous course best in Alphafly 1's on tapered legs) • Sunday – 1hr45 long run (18km+) with zero rubbing or hotspots By Saturday I had already run over 70km that week with no taper.
