It's not every day that a larger steam engine gets to stretch its legs, and when trips are announced, people usually come out in droves to ride behind it or chase it. When it is an unannounced trip, however, there's something even more special about it - which was the case on Sunday, August 21, 2016, when the owner of the Reading & Northern Railroad held a private charter on the line with his steam engine - 4-6-2 Pacific-type steam locomotive, #425. Departing from the shops in Port Clinton, PA, the trip went up to Schuylkill Haven - where passengers from the Hamburg, PA Class of 1966 debarked for a celebration. Meanwhile, 425 continued up the Pottsville branch, over to the wye at Port Carbon, where the engine and train were turned on the wye tracks, then back to Schuylkill Haven to pick up the passengers, and back to Port Clinton - with the second half of the trip under rainy conditions.
