Investigative Workflow to Counter Online Child Sexual Exploitation and Abuse

In 2020, the United Nations Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute (UNICRI), through its Centre for AI and Robotics, and the Ministry of Interior of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) launched the AI for Safer Children initiative with the aim of tackling child sexual exploitation online through the exploration of new technological solutions, specifically Artificial Intelligence (AI). An online platform – the Global Hub – was created to display available AI tools and learning resources for combatting online child sexual exploitation and abuse. One of the learning resources consists of an 8-stage workflow that ensures an efficient yet thorough investigation while maintaining a victim-centered focus on rescuing children who need our help.
