BLED FESTIVAL: Artistic Director: Lev PUPIS Web Site: www.vincero.si The AS International Music Festival is a saxophone-themed event addressing a wide audience, amateurs and professionals alike, with a vision of becoming the central event of its type in this part of Europe. It is duly named after Belgian instrument inventor Adolphe Sax, whose most famous invention is the SAXOPHONE itself. The AS Festival was first organised in 2014 as a commemoration of the 200th anniversary of the great man’s birth. After 2 renditions on a national scale, the 3rd annual AS Festival, in 2017, outgrew national bounds, as it featured over 250 saxophonists coming from Slovenia, Austria, and Hungary. The Festival also strives to attract a wider audience, which is why we pay special attention to the diversity of our musical programmes. THE SOS ORCHESTRA. The SOS saxophone orchestra was formed from the vision of maestro Roberto Buttus, renowned manufacturer and maintenance man of instruments, who also works together with Vincero. He and Lev Pupis invited renowned saxophonists from Slovenia, Croatia, and Poland to join them and in 2011 the SOS orchestra began actively performing. The SOS saxophone orchestra wishes to present high-quality music to its audience, be it transcriptions of classical masterpieces, new and original works, or jazz standards and big band pieces. One of the orchestra’s most unique elements is undoubtedly the fact they perform with no conductor. This is their main advantage, SOS members are convinced, as they are able, despite their numbers, to retain the idea of chamber performance and their common goal – to spoil their audience. The orchestra often shares the stage with renowned soloists as they are aware of the importance of collaboration and combining musical experience and energy, as it is the only thing that enables the projection of a unique musical experience. These are some of the world-renowned soloists have shared the stage with the SOS orchestra: Jean-Yves Fourmeau – saxophone, Jean Denis Michat – saxophone, Tymur Melnyk – violin, Marco Pierobon – trumpet, Ljubiša Jovanović – flute, Ognjen Popović – clarinet, Oto Vrhovnik – saxophone, Matej Grahek – flute, Jože Kotar – clarinet.
