Building a workbench for leatherwork is similar to building a workbench for a lot of things with a few exceptions. Over the last decade I've built a dozen or so workbenches, and figured out exactly what I'd like in a workbench a bit more every time. It's nice to be able to build your own workbench for leather crafting, because as your needs change you can adjust your workbench setup or rebuild completely! To build a workbench for leather crafting, we like to use studs 12" on center to prevent soft spots when hammering. We use 4x4 legs, and make the bench standing height at around 38". For this bench we also made a second shelf to store our marble slabs, cutting boards, etc - this keeps them close at hand but also keeps the top bench clutter-free. Since we're 2 people, the bench is 8" long total with a 6' tall work top, then 2' of a lower section to put the press at the proper height for leverage. For tool storage, we used 3/4" plywood and upholstered it with some old gran bags that are really pretty. Just some staples, batting, and a strip of leather made a nice quality tool holder that is also pretty and inspiring to look at every day!
