A near-stationary tropical moisture trough is driving dangerous flash flooding across central Australia, with active Severe Weather Warnings from the Bureau of Meteorology for parts of the Northern Territory and South Australia's North East Pastoral District, where rainfall rates of up to 120mm in six hours are possible. Queensland is recovering from one of its most intense fortnights of rainfall in years — the Katherine River peaked at 19.2 metres, Dunollie broke a 77-year rainfall record, and the Bruce Highway remains affected in places. Meanwhile, the system is slowly tracking east — and southeast Queensland, including Brisbane, the Sunshine Coast, and the Gold Coast, faces a potential heavy rainfall risk this weekend.
