Only water was used in the cleaning as bleach can mix poorly with many types of wood (this was probably southern pressure treated pine). We also covered before hand that my work would ruin the staining someone had done long ago and leave a splotchy finish, but as they had plans to paint it later on, it was not a concern. The steps got this bad as they get lots of moisture and very little sun, leading to dank, slippery surfaces that could easily cause someone to slip. The homeowner's daughter contacted me via Facebook and I was happy to help out in exchange for making a video. Cleaning everything would have meant blasting all the dirt in between them away and creating a muddy mess the homeowner would have needed to fix. Also, since I was displacing all the dirt that helped make it a flat, level, surface, I would also have been creating uneven surfaces that would not have been safe. Q: You are dumb and bald.
