Ruwan Ratnayake and Joseph Jasperse from the International Rescue Committee (IRC) in Sierra Leone present evaluation of the effectiveness of a community event-based surveillance system for Ebola virus. During the Ebola response, the IRC was involved in running isolation facilities, as well as implementing programs focused on disease surveillance and infection prevention and control in both Sierra Leone and Liberia. These slides present the evaluation of a large-scale surveillance system set up during the Ebola outbreak in Sierra Leone, showing that rumour-based surveillance systems can be implemented nationally during a humanitarian emergency.
