March 10th, 2021 On a beautiful late-winter day, we venture out to the Delaware Lackawaxen & Stourbridge Railroad in Wayne County. Here was catch the "foobie" Pennsy unit leading the train east as it bombs through the crossing at White Mills, PA. "PRR 9880" is an FP7A that was originally built for the Canadian Pacific in 1951 as their 4040. It then finished out its career in Canada on the AMT Commuter Railroad in Montreal. The engine is numbered based on what if the Pennsy had gotten another order of locomotives. The Pennsy did have FP7As, so this "foobie" isn't too far off. The line is actually a former Erie Railroad branch. But before that, quoted from Wikipedia "According to the Wayne County Chamber of Commerce, this (Honesdale) is the site of the first commercial locomotive on rails in the western hemisphere took place on August 8, 1829. The locomotive was the Stourbridge Lion". Eventually this line would be the Honesdale Branch of the Erie Railroad. It was purchased by Wayne County in 1972 to avoid abandonment.
