From St Jean Pied de Port to Roncesvalles by Pass of Ibañeta - Trans-Pyrenean Route by Van | V045

I was already in the penultimate stage of the Trans-Pyrenean Route by van. Except for the first stage, Vicky, my Sprinter 4x4 camper, had behaved wonderfully. That day I was going to visit some of the most emblematic places of the route. First I would walk through a village in the French Pyrenees called Saint Jean Pied de Port. Impressively beautiful! Especially the old town, inside its walls. Then, I would head towards Roncesvalles, in Spain again. This is a stopping point for those pilgrims doing the French Way to Santiago de Compostela. And I would get there via the Pass of Ibañeta. Also known as Pass of Roncesvalles. At the top, I would find a church with a very nice story. The story goes as follows: known as the Chapel of Charlemagne, since the 12th century it has served as a refuge and hospital for many pilgrims. It is said that as this is a foggy place, the hermit would ring the bell to guide the pilgrims. Driving through the Pyrenees I was really enjoying it. And traveling by van, even more!
