Alfa Romeo 155 2.0 TS D2 Evoluzione ex Superturismo in action on Hillclimb!

As I told you last week, I noticed I still have a lot of material from the 2018 FIA Hillclimb Masters race, an event held every 2 years where the best and fastest drivers of the most important European hillclimb championships are reunited to fight against the clock. The Alfa Romeo 155 D2 which was introduced back in 1993 in order to be raced under the D2-class rules (simultaneously Alfa Romeo also started the DTM program with the famous 155 V6 Ti which was built following the D1/DTM rules). The 155 D2 was basically a lowered and lightened street-legal 155 2.0 TS which was mostly raced in the Italian Superturismo championship. The engine wasn't the Alfa Romeo Twin-Spark featured in the road-legal car but the turbocharged Fiat 2.0 used in 1992 on the 155 GTA. For the D2 version this engine wasn't turbocharged and it was able to produce around 270 hp at 8,500 rpm. FIA thought of making the D2 more fascinating by changing some rules both in 1994 and 1995, year in which the restyling of the 155 was introduced, and the D2 acquired a much more aggressive look. The engine remained basically the same 2.0, with just 10-15 more hp, due to budget cuts decided by FIAT. In 1994 it was able to win the BTCC championship with Gabriele Tarquini behind the wheel. The 155 D2 had a new life when in 1997 Nordauto, a private Alfa Romeo dealership specialized on the 155 TS model, managed to set up three completely new and developed 155s for the Class 2 (how the D2 classs was renamed in 1996). The engine was now the exceptional Alfa Romeo 2.0 Twin Spark 16v which was modified in order to produce 305 hp at 8,500 rpm. The car was driven victoriously by Fabrizio Giovanardi.
