Hey guys, I'm Melvin, also known as bovlap. I am 22 years old and I'm coming from Holland. This is the first time I did grow such a big beard. I think I haven't shaved in like 6 years or something like that. Before I started growing this beard, most of the time I've had a stubble length hollywoodian style. I started growing my beard last year in begin august. I did not go for the yeard. during growing out my beard, I did go 4 times to the barber to give it a bit more shape and let him take care of the fly-aways. At the 8 month mark my beard was the same length as it is at this moment. it is now 12 cm below the under lip and 9 cm below the chin. So I think that this length is terminal for me. Sometimes I kind of wish that my beard could grow longer, but, i am still happy with who I am and I except how long my beard can grow. Because I can't change it. Oke so lets start looking into my past. I have to say that there are some embarrassing photo's of me when I was younger. You all know the fase of when your mustache starts to come in, but its not quite a mustache yet. Yes I was one of them who did just let it grow. After some time it was not really peach fuzz anymore but I couldn't call it a real mustache either. When I look at old pictures of it now, I wish I had just shaved it off, but on the other side, if i did shaved it off I didn’t think I would have ever grown any facial hair, because that way I learned to not give a shit about what other people think about me and do my own thing. that is who I was, at that time. When I was 14 I also started shaving for the first time and from 14 to 17 I started experimenting with different beard styles, most of the time it was some sort of a goatee or circle beard. From 17 to 21 I rocked the "hollywoodian" style, because I could not grow much hair on my cheeks. when I started to learn about beards I was curious to see, what I could grow. What made grow this beard is that, YouTube started to put beard related video's into my recommended list. I started watching the beard brand channel, if you want to check them out, the link is in the description. They teach you how to take care of your beard and they also show you tips and tricks! / thebeardbrand I learned how to care for a beard and how to maintain it, so I want to thank them for that. If you have any questions, comment them down below and I will try to answer them to the best of my ability. When you have a 4 moth old beard, You can notice that people look at you in a different way when they see you on the streets. Most of the time men are staring at the beard and giving you compliments. I think it is because that they know the struggle of growing a beard. When I got my first compliment for my beard from a complete stranger it was such a nice/ powerful/ awesome feeling! You could really notice that my cheeks and sideburns are alot denser right now, than it was 1 year ago. It is so cool that my cheeks has changed, because now I can try all the styles out that I want. I have to admit than I plucked the hairs out beside my soulpatch in the first coulple of weeks. After that I decided to just grow them out, because I heard if you repeatedly pluck hair´s on the same spot, that you can damage the hair follicles in that area. These were my goal's: Find out what I could grow. Find a style for the big beard. Reach terminal length ( was terminal at 8 months, mustache at 7/8, 12 CM/ 5.5 Inches ). Have a beard for one year. I want to talk a bit about my beard. I have 4 different colours in my beard, blonde brown, black, and I'm not sure but I think I already start to have grey/white hairs in my beard :0 at age 22. My father turned grey at a young age too so, it could be genetically decided. The strong points of my beard are my mustache, my goatee area, my neck beard, and jaw line. The weaker part of my beard are my cheeks and sideburns, I think they will develop just fine. The only thing I need is just time. And that counts also for you guy's. if you have a patchy beard, some guy's still can pull it off. I would recommend that you will keep it short, stubble for example. And sometimes if you crow your patchy beard out and most of the time the long hairs will cover those patchy area's. some styles also works better than other style ( expiriment ). If you are discouraged because you can't grow a beard and are in the early twenty's, maybe you are a late bloomer. Some guy's can grow a full beard at age 20 some at age 40. And you don’t always need a big beard, stubble can also look very good too. I would say experiment and just find the style or styles that work the best for you. And remember you can't change your DNA, but you CAN work with it. If you are in the early twenty's, don’t worry, time is your friend! ;D If you came all the way down here, I highly appreciate it that you took the time to read this and watch the video. Until next time… -bovlap
