The Perpendicular Axis Theorem is a principle in the mechanics of rotating bodies, particularly in 2D planar objects. It states that for any planar object, the moment of inertia about an axis perpendicular to the plane (denoted as the z-axis) is equal to the sum of the moments of inertia about two mutually perpendicular axes (the x-axis and the y-axis) that lie in the plane and intersect at the same point. This theorem is applicable only to flat, planar bodies and is useful for calculating the moment of inertia when the geometry of the body is complex.
