The Numidia Shipwreck - Big Brother Island, Red Sea. Full Penetration

During our TEC week on the M/Y Blue Fin with the crew from Blue O Two, we got to dive the Numidia, and penetrate the wreck as we worked our way up from 45m. The Numidia lies against the reef out on the north side of the western plateau of Big Brother Island. The remainder of her bow at approx 8m, and the stern at the depths of around 80m. On only her second voyage, she struck the plateau in the early hours of 20th July 1901 with a general cargo of 7000 tonnes and a crew of 97. After Captain Craig sighted the lighthouse on Big Brother Island, he set a course with the intention of passing to the west of Big Brother by approx 1 mile. The Captain then left the bridge leaving instructions with the Office of the Watch left in charge. At 02:10am the Captain was rudely awoken by the sound of the ship running aground on the northern plateau of Big Brother Island! All efforts to save the ship were lost, and the Captain ordered leave of all crew while he supervised the salvage of all cargo over the next 7 weeks before she finally sank.
