7.62x54R General Ammunition Discussion [February 2023] - 148gr. Light Ball 174gr. 182gr. Heavy Ball

Nyet, rifle is fine! 7.62x54R is the longest serving military service cartridge round in history. 132 years of military service as a standard issue military cartridge. Continuous service since 1891. Yes, I know, .303 British still sees very limited service but we’re talking about official issue military use. Currently (2023) were talking about issue for infantry rifles (limited), designated marksman rifles (DMRs), machine guns (heavy use for machine guns). The 7.62x54R is a full power rifle cartridge. Ballistically it is extremely similar to 7.62x51mm / 7.62x51 / 7.62 NATO / .308 Winchester. It is slightly less powerful than full-power .30-06 Springfield. 7.62x54R has far exceeded its contemporary cartridges - 7.92x57 Mauser or 8mm Mauser or 8x57mm, .303 British [not by that much though], .30-40 Krag, .30-03 Springfield, .30-06 Springfield (again, not by much and only as a military standard issue round), 7.7x56mm, 7x57mm Mauser, 7.65x53 Argentine 7.65x53mm Mauser, 7.7x58mm Japanese, 7.35x51mm Carcano, etc. yes, these cartridges are still heavily used for sporting purposes, hunting, long range target shooting and other civilian uses (especially 7.92x57mm / 8x57mm, .30-06 Springfield, .303 British). 7,62x54R 7.62x54 R 7,62x54 mm BALL 7.62x54mmR ammunition 7,62 x 54 R C.I.P. 148gr. light ball M1908 or M08 174gr., 180gr., 182gr. heavy ball or M1930 or M30 200 grain Extra Match manufactured by LVE or Match “Extra” LVE is literally Low Voltage Equipment. S&B manufactures a 180 grain FMJ and a 174 grain open tip match grade hollow point boat tail HPBT (OTM) match grade. PPU sells the same 182gr. FMJ-BT heavy ball M30 7.62x54R ammo in 20 round boxes.
