Shahid Butt’s life story reads like a Guy Ritchie script: gangs, skinheads, accusations of terrorism, and now, a dash for local office. Butt grew up in 70s and 80s Birmingham, where, he says, “white racist gangs used to roam the streets” and violence was a daily reality. “I was attacked and beaten up by a gang of skinheads…on my way to school,” Butt recalls. His tough upbringing, he argues, set him on a rocky path that he now regrets. Speaking to Talk's Samara Gill, Shahid Butt explains why he wants to run to be a local councillor in Birmingham, denies the offences he was convicted of (claiming he was tortured), and reckons he would do a better job than the current Labour incumbents.
